Private Practice in General, Geriatric, and Forensic Psychiatry:
Dr. Stephen Read has maintained a private practice in geriatric psychiatry for more than twenty-five years in parallel with his academic, research, and institutional commitments. Currently Dr. Read limits his clinical practice to outpatient and homecare settings, but he brings his expertise developed from extensive experience in the full range of care settings: acute inpatient (psychiatric and medical-surgical hospital), day care, and long-term care (skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and assisted living programs). Dr. Read's forensic practice focuses on decision-making and care issues, primarily involving the assessment of capacity, vulnerability to influence, and aspects of elder abuse. Dr. Read has been retained in over 800 cases primarily involving matters related to capacity and competence with regards to conservatorships, will contests, and quality of care issues, as well as selected personal injury and criminal matters, and the implications of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Dr. Read has qualified as an expert in federal court and in California and several other states. |
